Pictures from the weekend

Here are some pictures from the weekend. We had a lot of celebrating going on. Brian's birthday was Friday, Janet and Jacob's open house in Delta was Friday also, and Camille's baby blessing was Sunday. I especially enjoyed having Mom and Dad here, and so did Camille. She misses having someone hold her all day. I also miss having someone hold her all day.

Happy Birthday Brian!

The highlight of the drive to Delta was driving through the ghost town of Eureka.  In 1920 the population was 3,608. In 2010 it was 669. Photo credit.

Here is Camille wearing her party dress at the open house. The Tiffany blue dress from the wedding turned into a t-shirt in the three weeks between receptions.

Janet and Jacob coordinated their outfits for the blessing.

Fireworks

I love fireworks, but we didn't really watch any this year due to a needy little person who has to go to bed early. I was a little sad about missing the fireworks, but when Brian told me about this, it made me laugh.

One of the nation’s biggest July 4th firework displays turned into a 15-second bust after a “premature ignition” caused pyrotechnics spread across five barges in the San Diego Bay to go off all at once.
Thousands of onlookers had spent their July 4th camped out along San Diego’s beaches and parks Wednesday to catch a glimpse of the city’s 12thannual Big Bay Boom fireworks display, billed by organizers this year as being “bigger and more intense than in past years.”
The big show was expected to start at 9 p.m. and last 18 minutes but at 8:55 p.m., onlookers heard an explosion of booms and looked up to see what appeared to be a fire in the sky, but was actually the fireworks, just not in the breathtaking, coordinated display that organizers had spent months planning.
After 15 seconds the music continued, but the light show ended.  The abrupt start and stop left people wondering if that was really what they had waited hours to see.
Nearly 25 minutes later, around 9:20 p.m., when the show was expected to end, the stunned onlookers got their answer.  That 15-second display was it, organizers said.  There would be no re-do.
The Port of San Diego took to Twitter immediately after the explosion to apologize for what it called a “technical glitch” and said event producers were investigating the cause.
In a statement issued nearly three hours later, just before midnight, the port said that the mistake was caused by technicians who sent a signal “to the barges that would set the timing for the rest of the show after the introduction.”
Garden State Fireworks, the firm hired by the city to produce the show, acknowledged the mistake.  “We will be working throughout the night to determine what technical problem caused the entire show to be launched in about 15 seconds. We apologize for the brevity of the show and the technical difficulties,” the company said in a statement posted onwww.bigbayboom.com.
No injuries were reported but the force of the fireworks exploding at once was so great that a large rumble could reportedly be felt throughout downtown San Diego just before 9 p.m.

Now I know where all that dark hair came from. So much for the strong Scoresby genes.

Trip to Wisconsin

Warning: Basically all these pictures are of Camille. When I complained that we didn't have any other pictures, Brian said, "there wasn't anything else to take pictures of." Don't worry about this blog becoming all baby pictures though. I will post other things too.

We took a trip to Wisconsin/Minnesota for my sister Janet's wedding. I was pretty nervous about flying with a newborn, but all the worrying was unfounded. She basically slept or ate all the time. The people in the planes and airports loved her. This was our big summer vacation, but I think I came back more tired than when we left. We were so busy that we didn't eat any cheese curds or even go to Briq's for one pound cones. We still had fun though.

We flew out of  Provo Airport. It was basically like a house; one room to check in, one room for security, one room to wait in. It was nice to not have to go through a busy airport with a baby, and it was really nice that we didn't have to drive far to get there. The airport we flew into, Rhinelander, was also a one-gate airport, but it actually looked like an airport.

Waiting at Provo Airport
We spent the days before the wedding getting things ready and the day after the wedding trying to clean things up and put things away. The day before the wedding I enjoyed going to the temple with my family. It was the only time I had been to the temple with my brothers and sisters.

Baby Line-up. Thanks to Hannah and Kristin for watching the babies  while we were in the temple.

My mom made matching dresses for all the little granddaughters and Grandma Allred made the matching shirts for the grandsons. Aren't they cute? The bride and groom are a pretty good-looking pair too.

The nieces/nephews picture didn't work out so well. Lauren wouldn't even get in the  picture and Sadie toppled over as soon as Shannon let go of her.
I may be a little biased, but this little girl is especially cute.

Thanks for the matching bow Shannon. I was secretly hoping for a much, much larger and purpler flower, but this one looks pretty good.
While we were there Camille seemed to grow a lot. She also learned some new tricks. This was pretty hard to catch on camera, but check out that little smile going on.

Excuse the blurriness. This is one wiggly kid.
