Smiles

The other day I was walking to the Wilk, and I passed a girl carrying a Creamery bag walking towards the JFSB.    All the sudden, she flashed me...the Mom Smile!  I hadn't seen it for such a long time, I almost started laughing out loud.  Many Sundays when Mom was sitting up on the stand leading the music, Janet and I would try to make her look at us and smile.  Usually we got a Mom Smile back.   It looks something like this

but with squintier eyes.  Or this

but imagine Mom sitting up on the stand in Mt. Vernon.

Janet and I have missed out on the Mom smiles since she is not looking down at us every Sunday from the stand.  So we try to give each other the Mom Smile.

     

Yes, we miss the Mom Smiles, and we miss Mom.  Love you Mom!

My new schedule

I wake up, sometimes go running, get ready for work.
At work I do whatever my boss gives me, then in my free time I watch March Madness.
I run home, eat lunch, and walk up to campus.
During my classes I watch March Madness on the computer of whoever is closest.  All the computer labs are full of guys watching MM.
I come home, eat dinner, and meet up with Brian, and we do something.
I get ready for bed and check to see how my bracket is doing.

How do my professors expect me to do get my homework done?

Ode to Split

When I was seven we got two kitties
One named Spunky and one named Splitty
One stormy night Spunky wandered astray
Leaving Split to get her own way
Split grew up and and was a lot of fun
Even Dad's approval she had won
She traveled, hunting all over the county
Rabbits, squirrels, and Stormy were the bounty
To litters of kittens she gave birth
Her purpose fulfilling, she filled the earth
Fluffy, Tigger, Runty, and Patches
Were the first of her many batches.
After the move in the closet she hid
Lest Girlie annoy her, Heaven forbid!
She ruled the house in her queenly way
Stepping outside to enjoy a fine day
"She was a good cat," even Dad will admit
So, rest in peace, our dear Miss Split

Museum of Art

At FHE Monday we added some new masterpieces to our living room exhibit.  Here are my favorites:

Preference

Last weekend was Preference here at BYU.  I didn't ask Brian, and he wasn't too disappointed, but we might have missed out on some really great dances.  There were four, literary-themed dances, with appropriate dress suggested, but not required.  Here are the dance descriptions in order of how much I like (or in the last case hate) the books/authors.

Jane Austen Dance
-Dinner
-Dance instruction
-Live string quartet
-Parlor games
-Carriage rides

Harry Potter Dance
-Professor Trelawney booth
-Trivia game with prizes
-Costume contest
-"Snogging" Booth (is that BYU appropriate?)
-Gnome throwing

Dr. Seuss Dance
They put the same description as the Harry Potter dance, so I'll make up my own highlights:
-Green eggs and ham refreshments
-Bow tie and hat contest
-Cat-in-hat party favors

Great Gatsby Dance
-Dry bar
-Mocktails
-BYU Ballroom Dance Company showcase of 20s dancing

It's a shame we didn't go to any of them because I could have worn this for the Great Gatsby dance:

We had a good weekend despite missing out on all the preference fun.  Maybe later I'll put up a picture of what we actually did.  Janet...I hope you're planning for next year's Preference.
