Oh, Somebody Has a Birthday

Our little Camille dear!

It's hard to believe, but this little rascal turned one today.

Time has flown by the past year (except for the nights when she woke up every 20-30 minutes, which was  until she was over six months old).

We took her to the zoo for her birthday. She loved it. We're not sure what she liked more: looking at the animals or looking at all the kids.

I took her for a ride on the carousel.

I had big plans for her birthday cake, and it fell apart, literally. But I accomplished my goal of not spending any money on it, which is why I couldn't run out to buy a new cake mix or more powdered sugar for additional frosting. It still looks okay once you get past the blue scribbles and if you don't look at Moose and Zee too hard. And we didn't have any candles, but we did have sparklers. And we didn't have any ice cream.

The zebra stripes inside still turned out.

How old are you Camille?

We went camping

Taking Camille camping was an adventure. We didn't want to pay to go to a campground. It gets really expensive. In Utah, you can camp on any National Forest/BLM land for free, so we decided to rough it and do dispersed camping. We camped at a spot up the Hobble Creek Canyon side of Squaw Peak Road. It was beautiful, and it was cold. We took the pack'n'play both to contain Camille when we were around the campfire, and to put her to sleep in it. It was great for containment purposes, but she ended up sleeping with me in my sleeping bag. It was cold. Sharing a sleeping bag with a baby doesn't allow for a good night's sleep. Despite that, we enjoyed it, and hopefully we can go a few more times this summer when it's warmer at night.

This was after the first attempt to get her to sleep.

Family photo...where none of us are looking.

Camille really, really liked my Camelbak. She tried to drink from it every time she saw it, even when we were back at home and I was drying it out.

What We've Been Up To

We haven't been up to much really, so this might not be a very exciting post. It will at least have some cute pictures of Camille.

We decided to get a bike trailer. More appropriately put, I decided to get a bike trailer and convinced Brian that we should get one. It's been awesome so far, and we've run, biked, or walked almost everyday since it got warm out.

We finally worked on the front flower beds. This is a sample of the first phase. The whole front of the house looks much better.

Camille has been trying to climb everything. In addition to the fridge, the dishwasher, and the stairs, she recently mastered the TV stand (good thing we mounted the TV to the wall recently), the upstairs couch, the end table upstairs, and up and down the front porch. Getting in this drawer was less of a challenge.

I think it's safe to say that Holly Wood is enjoying her life here.

Camille's appetite has recently burgeoned. She likes most foods, but fruit and beans are her favorites. Like most babies, she's a messy eater, but this one cracked me up.

I don't know how Camille's mind works, but one day I noticed that she was just spinning around like this. We apparently lead very boring lives. And that's fine with me.
